AN INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS JUMPING FLASH?

Jumping Flash! is a first-person 3D platformer, released in 1995 as a launch title for the Sony Playstation. it's often described as the very first 3D platformer, though that isn't entirely true. if we're talking first ever 3D platformer, that title would probably go to 1990's Alpha Waves, released for the Atari ST, Amiga and DOS. but while Alpha Waves is undeniably really cool, i think Jumping Flash! definitely has it beat in personality and character.

in Jumping Flash!, you play as Robbit, a robot rabbit (go figure) who's got quite the jump. one day, this scientist named Baron Aloha decides, "you know what? i'm gonna put a bunch of planets inside of bottles. that'll teach em." and you've got to go free said planets. it's a pretty simple plot, but it gets the job done. your goal in the game is to go through each level, collecting Jet Pods, these little carrot things, and then make your way to the exit. as stated before, it's a first-person 3D platformer. it uses tank controls of all things, which sounds like it'd be really clunky and annoying to control. but honestly? i played this game for the first time in 2019, and it's not all that hard to get used to. it's sort of like Metroid Prime on Gamecube, my only issue with the controls is that there's no way to strafe but with only a few exceptions that's not really too big of a deal.

for this let's play, i'll be playing the PS1 Classics rerelease on the PS3, though there's no difference between this and the original release. now, if you wanna access the let's play, go ahead and click on one of those buttons up there. i'd recommend starting out with World 1.
